Quality deep cuts from Arcarsenal - Hoodoo Spell EP

After a 2 years hiatus, during which the team focused on developing its Berlin-based vinyl-store, Bass Cadet Records is finally back on the label path. Alan Mathias and Etienne Dauta aka Arcarsenal have been slowly but firmly raising a sound and work ethos for the past couple of years now. The two Frenchmen have spent hours in their production nest where a love for jam and improvisation has led them to a fine understanding of each other and dialog within their influences. This new EP entitled “Hoodoo Spell” focuses on dancefloor material but always with atmospheres, textures, a pinch of psychedelism and a stress laid on percussions and intense rhythm patterns. The opening track “Days Of Down” is a deep-techno cut where intricated melodies and synths pad are responding to subtles percussions and a loud bassline. “Least” follows up with a heavy drum rhythm which sustains dubby pads and stabs and soulful organ notes. A journey built to bring the listener into ecstatic dancing. The momentum of the EP is reached on the B-side where “Peoples Above The Sky” takes all the space. The track develops itself over nearly 9 minutes, starting from a smooth tribal pattern which slowly turns into a mental voyage where pads, organs, synths solo and acidic lines end in an epic drum break. To add a final point, the EP shows the crossover of house and techno that characterizes Arcarsenal sound. About Arcarsenal: After inaugurating their label in 2012 and a detour via London’s This Is Not Happening in 2013, they released their statement record, a critically and publicly acclaimed EP on Finest Hour in 2014. The EP has gained support of key players as Ben UFO, Nick Höppner and Philipp Sherburne, plus artists including AYBEE, Margaret Dygas and Eduardo De La Calle. Earlier this year Arcarsenal took part in the latest chapter of Underground Quality’s compilation series Unity Kolabo and released a track on young Berliner label Funhaus Records. The future is already busy for them with a slew of releases lined up for Fred P’s Boards, madrid techno label A Harmless Deed and Parisian imprint Rue De Plaisance. Dubby essays, ambient works and other deep techno burners will continue opening the sound spectrum of the duo, always in research for new ideas. About Bass Cadet Records: Three years of age for the label and two for its record store based in the heart of Berlin’s Neukölln area has led Bass Cadet team to develop in multiple ways. The label being relaunched with this EP on the main offshoot is only part of the plan. The historical Bass Cadet, dedicated to release the music of its founders Atilla and Tolga Fidan and Arcarsenal, will also make space for two new brother labels. The first one, Tape Archive, curated by Atilla, will develop a personal sound and visual identity. It is also linked to a YouTube channel featring regular posts of video works, tracks and ideas. The second, Orbits, will be managed by Etienne, head of the BCR’s recordstore and dedicated to the people and artists that are making its life. The likes of Ron Trent, AYBEE, Jenifa Mayanja are already set to release 12” for the label amongst others great artists. Tracklist: A1 Days Of Down A2 Least B1 Peoples Above The Sky
