Solar Distance presents Nick Theos & Paul Stickman with Sounds From The 6ix

UNER’s label ‘Solar Distance’ which was launched with his own 4 track EP ‘Return & Rebirth’ back in 2015, and today marks the third release from Nick Theos and Paul Stickman with ‘Sounds From The 6ix’.

If you were into vinyl in the 90’s then you would be familiar with Paul Stickman, both he and Nick hail from Toronto and started working together on projects after being introduced by a mutual friend. Paul made his return to SCI+TEC last year, after previous releases with the likes of Nervous and Plus8.

‘Maxell XLII-S’ pays homage to the don of all cassettes but its deep bass-led groove and sudden drop into a delicate classical piano refrain pays homage to blank canvas dynamism.

‘Bad Guy’ proceeds to blast off with a pendulum rhythmic element bouncing back and forth over pneumatic kicks. Suddenly a synth line rises from nowhere taking us further and further from the earth’s orbit.

Finally we prepare to land: ‘Theme 002’ pulls us closer and closer to home with its gradual, graceful introduction, the low pass filter slowly fading as our planet comes closer and closer into view. Crisp hi-hats lock us into the earth’s orbi
